Page 73 proudly invests in playwrights before they have significant industry or audience recognition and believes these playwrights deserve artistic agency in their production and development processes.

Mission

Page 73’s mission is to advance the careers of talented playwrights by producing impactful Off-Broadway debuts and awarding substantial development resources exclusively to writers who have not yet had a professional premiere in New York City.

  • Page 73 launches playwrights’ careers by devoting our resources to talented playwrights and introducing them to audiences and industry.

  • Page 73 Off-Broadway premieres prepare playwrights for enduring careers by involving them in every aspect of the production of their work.

  • Page 73’s playwright development programs offer flexible resources to deepen artistry as well as career guidance and financial remuneration for each playwright.

Values

Page 73 believes inclusive working environments forge the best theater. In our office, our Boardroom, and our theatre-making spaces, we strive to achieve and sustain inclusivity by committing to the following values: Accessibility, Accountability, Anti-racism, Collaboration, Diversity, Equity, Respect, and Transparency.

Centering the Playwrights

  • Playwrights make decisions about their own production and development processes at Page 73.

  • Page 73’s staff commits to individualized support of each playwright we welcome into our programs. We aim to understand their goals and tailor our resources to match, delivering them when they can be most effective.

  • We consider the impact of our institutional actions on the playwrights we serve. This includes how we produce and market theater, how we fundraise and operate as a non-profit company, and who serves on our Board and staff.

Putting New Voices on Stage

  • We believe that introducing a diverse roster of voices to the theater will keep our art form vital to American culture.

  • Page 73 values distinct voices and sensibilities, and we seek out playwrights who embrace the medium of live theater. We champion no singular aesthetic, style, or approach to playwriting.

  • We seek to be a corrective to the trend that playwrights who haven’t had the career milestone of a New York City premiere receive fewer resources and production opportunities.
